Strava community and Absa are on track to raise money for community upliftment

Johannesburg, 18 September 2023 – Proudly African bank, Absa, is pleased to report that since the 2023 Absa RUN YOUR CITY series began on 2 April in Gqeberha, they have raised more than R1 100 000 towards community upliftment. This is through their campaign titled Together, we can do more, Siyabangena, an initiative aimed at encouraging Absa colleagues, customers and community members to be an active force for good and raise funds via the Strava community to donate towards community upliftment.

With the bold goal of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle, Absa partnered with the RUN YOUR CITY series of events in 2021. For more inclusivity, the series was expanded to include Gqeberha and Tshwane as host cities last year, bringing the total number of cities in the series from three to five.

“The 2023 Absa RUN YOUR CITY series has been one for the books. With four of the five races completed this year, over R1.1 million has been raised to date through the running billboard activation, the Team Absa on Strava community and the races themselves. Communities in these cities have shown the spirit of ubuntu and that they are a force for good,” says Sydney Mbhele, Absa’s Group Chief Marketing and Corporate Affairs Officer.

“Part of our strategy is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and we believe that with the introduction of the running billboard, our customers, colleagues and the greater community will come together and make a positive impact in society by simply tracking their kilometres,” adds Mbhele.

To join in the fun activity and clock your kilometres, visit the running billboard at:

  • Newtown Junction Mall from Thursday, 21 to Saturday, 23 September 2023

o Thursday and Friday from 10:00 to 17:00

o Saturday from 09:00 to 14:00

“With Joburg being the last city to host us, we are excited to see what it has in store. We encourage everyone to lace up, come in numbers and paint the city red as we celebrate National Heritage Day. Absa colleagues, customers and community members are encouraged to join Team Absa Walk Run and track their kilometres every time that they walk or run to create a greater impact,” Mbhele concludes.
