Afrorama’s new #AfricaJobsBoard connects talent to drive positive change

Must read

Johannesburg, May 2024: Non-profit company, Afrorama, a knowledge hub of Africa, has launched the #AfricaJobsBoard website to connect African talent with organisations and roles that drive positive change across the continent.

Originally launched as a prototype in October 2021 on LinkedIn, the #AfricaJobsBoard LinkedIn page has been helping to forge impactful connections between opportunity seekers and organisations within Afrorama’s community of over 28,000 users. Founder Chloé Bertrand soon recognised the need to enhance the platform’s capabilities to boost the support of its rapidly growing audience and client base.

Bertrand says: “Essentially we are building an ecosystem to support talented individuals to drive change and impact in Africa through every stage of their career journeys.” She adds that large and smaller social impact-driven organisations such as the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the International Budget Partnership are already posting on the jobs board and are reporting positive outcomes.

According to the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, which provides an African voice on global challenges, about a quarter of African youth are not employed, nor are they in education or training. Bertrand says: “Even though digital platforms have made information more accessible, the information is scattered across different platforms. The new #AfricaJobsBoard portal addresses that and creates visibility around African-based and Africa-related opportunities, specifically aimed at the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which address issues that include poverty, quality education, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequalities.”

The #AfricaJobsBoard platform gives talent the opportunity to:

Explore tailored African-related opportunities on its website and through a dedicated WhatsApp platform.
Write reviews on various organisations.
Access professional development resources.
Find resources such as improving their CV, free courses on specific sectors, and information on industry trends.

As part of this launch, Afrorama is also kick-starting a valuable community initiative – Speed CV reviewing – which, like speed-dating, matches two individuals who agree to review each other’s CVs for free. A first workshop called ‘CV clinic’ organised by partner, TechTalk, will be held on 15 May. To register for the event, click here.

Bertrand says Afrorama aims to see the #AfricaJobsBoard portal blossom into a leading hub for purpose-driven professionals who will positively impact the African continent.

The platform launch has been funded by Afrorama, the Africa Matters Initiative, Donors for Africa Foundation and several individuals who regularly use the jobs board.
