One of Cape Town’s most loved comedians is returning with a new run of his inaugural one-man show later this month.

The Bloem Boykie Diaries is set to dazzle Cape Town audiences at the The Pizza Shack in Ottery on 31 March, for a one-night only performance.

Directed by well-known comedian, Stuart Taylor, and produced by The Comedy Knights, the show is a one man’s account of Carl’s hilarious journey as a farm boy to the big city.

The show focuses on Carl’s life story of him trying to adapt to city life in Cape Town, with small town quirks resulting in comedic consequences.

“My decision to move to Cape Town was on a complete whim. By the time I moved to The Mother City, I had no job and nothing lined up and was looking for life to show me a sign as to what I was meant to do next,” he says.

“I think it is important for people to hear and know my story as I didn’t set out to do comedy initially. I was at the lowest point in my life and ended up going to an open mic night event and when I watched how the aspiring comics enjoyed being on the stage, and how the audiences reacted to that form of comedy, that’s when I realised that comedy was the calling I had been searching for all my life.”

Carl says this story is filled with “a roller-coaster of emotions”.

“My life has been super funny, quirky, awkward, serious, bad and redeeming on this wonderful journey and that’s why it’s important to share my story through my comedy,” he admits.

The Bloem Boykie diaries debuted at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown 2016, where is was very well received from local audiences. A two-night sold out run in Cape Town – held at the Garden Court Theatre in December last year – proved the show and now Carl gets to take his story to the Southern Suburbs of The Mother City.

“Almost six years down the line, I finally have equipped myself with the skills to tell my comedy story – with all the punchlines, seriousness and comedic timings needed, because I am now skilled enough to do it.”

Tickets for this spectacular show can also be purchased via Quicket, using the following Quicket link http://qkt.io/bloemboykiediaries.

Tickets will be sold at R100 each, both online at at the door on the evening of the performances. You may also reserve tickets by emailing: [email protected].
