The Voetspore team, led by Johan Badenhorst, complete their trilogy on this spectacular part of the world with Voetspore: Suid-Amerika 3. They visit Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Brazil and Uruguay. The new season of thirteen episodes is the third on South America and starts 11 March on kykNET (DStv channel 144).

The first stop is Venezuela – a country that suffers from serious corruption and mismanagement, but also has some of the most beautiful scenery on the continent. The team experience the Mérida Teleférico, the highest and second-longest cable car ride in the world.

In Guyana, the country with the highest international economic growth rate as a result of the recent discovery of large oil reserves, Johan and his team explore a place that feels much more Caribbean than South American.

Suriname is a former Dutch colony. Everyone in this country – from the descendants of slaves from Africa and the Hindus whose ancestors worked on the sugar cane fields, to the large indigenous, Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities – share Dutch as a common language.

The journey ends in Brazil – the giant of South America. The team begin in the Amazon basin and then travel along this mighty river all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. From Belém, on the southern bank of the Amazon mouth, the team tour along the coast, via Natal, to Salvador. After a short visit to the interior of Brazil, the team visit the impressive Rio de Janeiro and the south-east of the country with its beautiful cities, Florianópolis and Porto Alegre. And then they end in Uruguay, where the first trip to South America began three years ago.

“These three seasons on South America were an epic adventure and a journey of more than 45 000 km,” says Johan. “This last journey was more than 16 600 km and came with its own challenges and joys. These are thirteen episodes showing a team that stands by one another through thick and thin, and which explored this part of South America in all its facets. To experience it in a TV series will certainly keep viewers glued to their screens. What a privilege!”
