This year has fast become of the most important years for women’s sports in South Africa. From witnessing the resounding success of the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, and the Netball World Cup to the ongoing momentum in various disciplines such as women’s football, women’s sport keeps making remarkable strides that continue to inspire the nation.
Utilising this momentum, Telkom firmly believes that sport can be a catalyst for positive social change and ultimately the development of a prosperous future for our country. However, research suggests that many girls stop playing sports in adolescence due to losing confidence. Ahead of the 2023 Netball World Cup, in partnership with SuperSport as part of its Here for Her initiative, Telkom wanted to show aspiring young netball players that anything is possible when you Stand Tall.
The Telkom Netball League (TNL) stands as South Africa’s premier netball tournament, embodying excellence and serving as a driving force behind the development of numerous talented players. It has consistently provided a remarkable platform for athletes to prepare, compete, and showcase their skills, fostering an environment where hard work and dedication can lead to national recognition and scouting opportunities – that didn’t change at this year’s TNL final.
What was set to be a tournament final for the history books to crown the 2023 TNL champions, welcomed inspiring U/12 athletes to participate in a domestic league and rub shoulders with some of their netball heroes, giving them a glimpse into a prosperous future. In line with Telkom’s commitment to driving the development of netball in South Africa, this first-of-its-kind exhibition match at TNL played a pivotal role in shaping the future of netball in South Africa, empowering young players to reach new heights and inspiring generations to pursue their dreams in this beloved sport.
