Basetsana Kumalo opened up about her weigh loss after drum mag published an article suggesting she was a “victim of a botched liposuction” gone wrong.

According to the publication, Basetsana had to undergo emergency surgery recently following complications with liposuction. Claimed the former miss SA was allegedly rushed to hospital after suffering internal bleeding.

Basetsana denied the claims and rather opened up on how she successfully got ride of her baby fat.

“They clearly think I am a superwoman. It’s very flattering,” Kumalo says.

“They think that in between doing physio three times a week, learning to walk through the pain of a broken ankle, organising and hosting my kids parties two weeks in a row, that I would have time to quickly go for liposuction last week, then go to court at midnight on Thursday to interdict them, attend an SABC3 workshop on Friday morning and still put in a full day’s work in the afternoon.

“That clearly makes me a bionic woman. It must be all the titanium in my leg.”

Kumalo, who has 11 titanium pins and plates inserted in her ankle after breaking it in four places at her son’s school on a rainy March 17, says she remains a true kasi girl. Born and bred in Soweto’s Mzimhlophe township, she always keeps it real.

“I have always been an advocate for losing weight naturally and prefer making healthy lifestyle choices,” she says.

“I have not had any liposuction before.”

She says she discovered Dream Body Fitness in 2012, when she was battling to shed her baby fat after giving birth to her son.

Kumalo attributes her remarkable weight loss to her fitness consultant, Steve Mululu, who put her on a proper eating programme and convinced her to try boxing.

“The results were remarkable, and in less than 12 months, I had reached my goal weight – and thoroughly enjoyed my workouts with my boxing trainer, Takalani Kwinda,” Kumalo says.
