(Cape Town, South Africa – [ September]) – South African singer-songwriter The Bird, real name Bianca Burt, has released her new single, Chasing Fireflies – a glowing meditation on memory, wonder, and holding onto beauty in a world that moves too quickly. Written in the quiet of a late Cape winter, the track captures the fragile magic of life’s fleeting moments.

“Chasing Fireflies is about wonder,” says The Bird. “It’s about the rare, sparkling experiences we carry with us, the moments that feel almost impossible, yet stay etched in our hearts. For me, the firefly became a symbol of hope, resilience, and the childlike spirit I never want to lose.”
Bianca’s musical path has been anything but linear. Growing up between Cape Town and Hermanus, she sang at family gatherings and with local groups before exploring musical theatre. She later shifted into a career in events management, including a decade in London. Music returned to her after the loss of her father in 2014, becoming both healing and truth-telling. Her songs since then have read like journal entries, poems turned into melodies exploring love, motherhood, grief, and resilience.
Now back in Cape Town, Bianca creates under the name The Bird, symbolizing freedom, perspective, and coming home to herself. Her music blends folk and pop with honest, poetic storytelling, making it both deeply personal and universal.
“Chasing Fireflies is about keeping faith in the little lights,” she shares. “It reminds me that no matter how dark things may feel, beauty always finds a way through.”
Chasing Fireflies is available now on all streaming platforms.
