28 June 2023: ICT – According to recent studies, cloud computing adoption among small businesses in South Africa is on the rise but it still lags behind the global average. In a survey conducted by Worldwide Worx and F5 Networks, it was found that only 47% of small businesses in South Africa use cloud computing services, compared to the global average of 64%.

While the adoption of cloud computing by small businesses in South Africa is lower than the global average, it is on the rise and is expected to continue to grow as many small businesses shift to remote work, making cloud computing an essential tool for maintaining business continuity and to ensure remote access to data and applications.

Cloud computing helps mitigate some of the costly business risks, especially loss of data or security breaches. A business that relies only on local hardware for data storage and backup could lose all its information in the event of hardware failure.

Moreover, cloud computing eliminates the time-consuming processes and costs associated with managing IT infrastructure. Without cloud computing, small businesses would need to hire IT staff or outsource IT support services to maintain their hardware and software, which can be a significant expense. It reinforces data security and improves flexibility and mobility.

By leveraging cloud computing, small businesses can save on costs as cloud computing means there’s no need for investment in expensive hardware and associated maintenance. Small businesses can benefit from a scalable service that allows them to customise their applications and adapt to changing data storage requirements.

Working in the cloud enables scalability and allows businesses to quickly add or remove computing power or storage capacity as their workloads fluctuate. They save money because they only pay for the resources they need.

Cloud computing also offers increased efficiency and enhanced business agility. Businesses can respond to shifting market conditions and access their data quickly – from anywhere in the world, explains Aadiel Ayob, Group Executive for Innovative Enterprise Services and Solutons.

Our aim is to ensure that businesses using cloud computing have robust security measures in place to ensure their privacy and the safety of their data, and that of their clients.

We have built an integrated, automated marketplace offering a range of data-driven services to give businesses a competitive edge as they use cloud computing, these services include:

  • Private cloud computing solutions.
  • DevOps, PaaS, and CaaS services.
  • Public cloud computing solution.
  • Data centre infrastructure solutions.
  • Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI).
  • Mail hygiene and security services.
  • Shipping container-based services.
