(Johannesburg, October 2025) – South African indie-pop band Rubber Duc are back with “Girl Next Door,” – a song that dives into the messy, hyperconnected world of modern romance. It’s the second single off their forthcoming EP, Old Money, and it captures what it feels like to fall for someone through a screen – where the line between fantasy and reality blurs.

“Girl Next Door is really about life today and how easy it is to get lost behind our screens,” explains lead singer Nick Jordaan. “We live in a time where everything’s at our fingertips, and it’s become so easy to get caught up in the highlight reels people post online. The song talks about falling for the idea of someone, not for who they really are, and how that can leave you stuck in this strange space where you’re completely obsessed, but they might never even know you exist.”
With their signature mix of catchy melodies, thoughtful lyrics, and a laid-back charm that’s become unmistakably “Rubber Duc,” Girl Next Door finds the band continuing to reflect on life, love, and connection in the digital age.
With their first EP in several years on the way, Rubber Duc are entering a new chapter with Old Money – a five-track project featuring four new songs and a bonus track. “It feels authentically Rubber Duc again,” the band shares. “We went back to basics, just jamming together, focusing on feel before production. It reminded us why we love creating music as a group.”
Now more than a decade in, Rubber Duc says Old Money reflects a return to authenticity and connection. They’re taking the new music on the road with upcoming shows across South Africa, Dubai, and beyond. “This EP feels like home,” they add. “It’s a reminder of who we are and why we started making music in the first place.”
