(Johannesburg, July 2025) – South African singer-songwriter Ross Learmonth returns with his latest single, Heavy Love, a gritty, emotionally charged track that continues to contribute to his evolution as a solo artist — and once again reflects his commitment to using music for good through his ongoing partnership with the humanitarian organisation RADA. Following the success of his previous single Opposites, which landed on some of the biggest radio charts across SA, and a string of major performances—including a sold-out Shepherd’s Bush show in London and opening for the Goo Goo Dolls—Ross is back with his latest offering that leans into the kind of songwriting that is raw, vulnerable, and deeply human.

“The past few years I’ve been working on bringing myself back from a dark space,” says Ross. “I had to let go of relationships and environments I loved, but that were holding me back. Heavy Love was born from that process—there’s defiance in it, but also maturity and acceptance.”

Initially written as a voice note melody after an unproductive studio day, Heavy Love took on a life of its own. “I was going to record a totally different song, but it just wasn’t working. I kept hearing Heavy Love in my head on the drive home, so I quickly recorded it and sent it to the team. It became clear that this was the one. My producers, Rusti and Tristan, really brought it to life.”
The track showcases the sonic bridge between Ross’s past and present, retaining the edge that made him a household name, but pairing it with introspective storytelling and emotional clarity. “It’s that moment when you let go of something that’s been weighing you down. There’s a freedom in the heartbreak.”
In line with his commitment to using music as a force for good, Ross has pledged a percentage of all royalties from Heavy Love to RADA. RADA is a South African humanitarian organisation focused on empowering individuals through self-awareness and self-responsibility. RADA (Rape, Alcohol, Drug, Abuse) addresses some of society’s toughest challenges through practical outreach and community projects, while its music arm, RADA Unearthed, supports both emerging and established artists in sharing messages of hope and inspiration. Royalties from these musical collaborations go back into RADA’s work, ensuring that every song helps uplift communities and create positive change.
“Ross Learmonth is an exceptional artist who genuinely cares about making a meaningful impact,” says RADA founder and CEO, John-Paul Nobrega. “We’ve had the privilege of working together for many years. His music is both uplifting and inspiring, perfectly aligned with RADA’s mission of creating awareness, instilling hope and driving positive change, one day at a time. The royalties from every stream and download of Heavy Love will directly support various RADA projects and we are grateful for his continued support. This song will make a real difference in the lives of those in vulnerable communities.”
2025 has been a landmark year for Ross. The highlights mentioned were simply the tip of the iceberg as Ross landed his debut solo performance at Kirstenbosch Gardens and headlined the RMB Starlight Classics in Cape Town. Up next: an international performance at Cyprus’ Paphos Medieval Castle with The Parlotones and Arno Carstens, a run of festival dates across South Africa, and a KZN tour in September.
