(Cape Town, South Africa – July 2025) – Cape Town’s Mikhaela Faye returns with her second EP, I’m Bored — a genre-blending, emotionally raw, and playfully rebellious project that unpacks everything from toxic relationships to existential limbo, all with a wink and a punch. “I’ve made a lot of very serious, ‘try-hard’ music in my life,” she shares. “The biggest disservice I can do to myself is to take it all too seriously. This EP was about shaking that off, embracing the naughties pop-punk teenage Mikhaela, and just having fun.”

Described by Mikhaela as “hyperactive escapism,” the five-track EP is a sonic journey through the chaos of modern life — and the paralysis that sometimes follows. “We become desensitised, overwhelmed, and amidst the media-driven frenzy of daily life, our brains shut down,” she explains. “Boredom is our protection, it’s our paralysis in a world that doesn’t feel held.”
Each track explores a different emotional beat. From the emotional suffocation of Smothered By U, to the dark introspection of Lost You For the Last Time, to the biting humour of Uncool, Mikhaela dives headfirst into discomfort with startling vulnerability and an edge of playfulness. Lead single Gaslighter – released prior to the EP – embodies that duality: a punchy anthem about walking away from a narcissist, wrapped in catchy pop production.
Produced alongside long-time collaborator Josh Berry, I’m Bored is a testament to creative trust and freedom. “Josh emboldened my production choices. I would never have made something that sounded like this without his skill, encouragement and guidance.” The result is an emotionally complex EP yet sonically unfiltered — club bangers that carry the weight of grief, self-doubt, and defiance, often in the same breath. It’s also a reflection on identity in transition: letting go of the defining dreams of your twenties while stepping into the messy in-between of early adulthood.
“I get bored very easily. I like taking on the role of different characters that represent me in some way,” she says. “I want to learn about different genres and have fun blending the unexpected – it’s like a musical smoothie. If you drank the same smoothie every morning, you’d be pretty uninspired, no? Music is music – it either makes you feel something or it doesn’t.”
