South African gospel artist Musa Yende is stepping fully into her own with the release of her highly anticipated debut EP, Sustained by Grace. The seven-track body of work marks a pivotal moment for the rising star, introducing her not only as a vocalist of rare skill, but as a dynamic worship leader and storyteller grounded in grace and intention.
Born and raised in Spruitview, East Rand, Musa’s music journey began in her early childhood, singing in church and later joining her school choir in matric. After high school, she went on to formally study music, majoring in jazz, an influence that subtly shapes the fluidity and control in her voice today. Musa’s professional career started behind the scenes, singing backing vocals for gospel giants such as Dr Tumi, Benjamin Dube, and embarking on projects overseas. Her years of dedication and work in the background have laid a solid foundation for the moment she now stands in; center stage, ready to share her talent with the world!
Sustained by Grace is a sonic and spiritual experience. The project has been carefully and prayerfully curated, with every track, instrumentalist, and harmony handpicked by Musa herself, together with her producer Joseph Makola. The result is a well-balanced offering that blends technical brilliance with deep emotional resonance. It’s a testimony wrapped in melody, a personal journal of encounters with the sustaining power of God.
The EP opens with ‘Angesabi Lutho’, a bold and moving proclamation of trust in God’s sovereignty. Built on dynamic vocal layers and an anointed melodic progression that builds with conviction, the song reminds listeners that with God, there is no need to fear. It sets the tone for the entire EP which is faith-filled and empowering.
One of the defining songs of the project is ‘uMelusi’, the first official single. Released earlier this year to great reception, uMelusi (meaning ‘The Shepherd’) is an ode to God’s constant care and guidance. Musa’s ability to merge theological depth with modern musicality is evident here, making the track not only a worship anthem but a sonic balm for listeners navigating uncertainty. The song is followed by the ‘uMelusi Prayer’, a spoken-word and intercession moment that further anchors the message of the Good Shepherd and Musa’s heart for ministry.
The project also features a stirring collaboration with renowned gospel artist Brenden Praise on the track ‘Amandla Amasha’. Despite his wider mainstream popularity, Brenden has long expressed admiration for Musa’s voice, often naming her as one of his favourite gospel vocalists in the country. Their musical partnership, nurtured over several collaborations, reaches new heights on this track about the renewing strength found in God.

Visually, the EP is captured through its striking cover art. It pays homage to Musa’s signature blue hair, a symbol of her individuality and boldness. The cover is a visual reflection of Musa’s personality: calm, thoughtful, yet unafraid to stand out.
With Sustained by Grace, Musa Yende officially marks her arrival in South Africa’s gospel music scene, not as a newcomer, but as a long-prepared voice of substance, excellence, and spirit. More than anything, Musa represents a generation of young Christians who are rooted in their faith but not removed from their times. She gives voice to those who want to love and serve God while still embracing creativity, individuality, and artistic freedom. In her music, young believers find expression and permission to honour God with their full selves. Sustained by Grace is just the beginning, and yet it’s already a landmark moment.
