A mother has been arrested for child abuse after she allegedly whipped her daughter with a belt and forced her to wear a t-shirt with humiliating details about her failing school work.
Melany Joyce Alexander is accused of trying to shame her child into getting better grades by sending her into class with a t-shirt daubed with a message about her earning F’s at school.
According to police documents, the child was beaten with a ‘leather belt with holes with metal divots’, that left impressions on her arms, neck, chest, back and legs.
The handwritten t-shirt had details about how the pupil was only achieving F grades at the school, and warned friends away.
Her teachers called police after becoming concerned about her welfare. The Department of Children and Families decided the alleged punishment was “excessive” and Alexander( the mother) was arrested.
