The R30 million redevelopment programme at Midway Mews, which is due to be completed in 2018, is already having a positive impact on the shopping experience in Midrand.

The shopping centre, which is well and truly a “midway convenience stop”, has not been upgraded since it was built in 2007. Midway Mews, located on Harry Galaun Street, Halfway Gardens, is in a prime retail catchment area between residential and business establishments, and hence, management felt a revamp was in order to not only compete with centres in the area, but primarily to grow the shopper base visiting the centre.

With the addition of a new Chicken Licken drive-through and Mimmos restaurant, the centre has seen a significant increase in foot traffic.

Changes that have been made include the façade of the centre a resurfacing of the parking lot, offering a better experience for customers. The 800sq/m Mash Braai House, a Lifestyle Shisanyama serving meat on the braai and traditional South African dishes, was also added to allow for a more diverse offering. The revamped Pick ‘n Pay store, which is due to be completed in 2018, will be relaunched under new ownership and will allow customers to embrace the aim of the centre – a convenience stop.

Apart from the more apparent physical and aesthetic developments, some minor changes have been made which include a new logo. The new logo has been incorporated into a wall adjacent to the revamped Pick ‘n Pay store.

According to customers, the revamp has already improved their shopping experience. Midway Mews is a pleasant, safe, convenient community centre that caters to all grocery, health and beauty, and convenience needs. The Centre aligns itself with the local community. It offers shoppers a selection of national retail brands and food outlets.

As part of the refurbishment, a number of new stores have been added to the mix. These include Fix a Phone, the Satara Thai Spa, Secretz Hair and Beauty Salon, Overland Liquor and the Mash Braai House.

Current stores include Mandarina Internet, Midway Fashion, Western Sensation, Anjalais Indian Cuisine, Debonairs Pizza, Kara Nichhas Midrand, the Marimba Restaurant and Bar, Nandos Midrand, Pick ‘n Pay, Clicks, Mica Hardware, JDC Dry Cleaners, Rama Spice and Pooja, Rong Hing, Steers and Fishaways. There are also a number of health and beauty and medical service providers, which we are certain will make Midway Mews the customer favourite in the Midrand area.
