Leonardo DiCaprio has plenty of Golden Globes. In his quest for that first Oscar, another can’t hurt.

DiCaprio won for The Revenant on Sunday, his third Golden Globe win in 10 nominations (previous wins came for Wolf of Wall Street and The Aviator). DiCaprio beat out Bryan Cranston (Trumbo), Michael Fassbender (Steve Jobs) Eddie Redmayne (The Danish Girl) and Will Smith (Concussion).

“What an incredible honor, wow that meant a lot,” said DiCaprio as he took the stage to a loud and long ovation from the crowd at the Beverly Hilton. “This film was about survival, it was about adaptation, it was about the triumph of the human spirit, but more than anything it was about trust. And there’s no one more deserving of that trust than our director Alejandro Iñárritu — thank you,” he said.

In a down year for the Best Actor category, DiCaprio remains the front-runner at next month’s Academy Awards. If that should happen on Feb. 28, expect the Internet to erupt — DiCaprio has been nominated for an Oscar four times (The Wolf of Wall Street, Blood Diamond, The Aviator and supporting for What’s Eating Gilbert Grape), but so far has been denied.
