Vermeiren took to social media on Monday afternoon to announce that with Zulu’s wife’s permission a trust had been established.

Vermeiren explained that Zulu had always strived to help those in need and the trust wants to do the same for Zulu’s family.

“Gugu always gave of his time to charities and used his good name to raise funds for others. It is now time for us to give back and to ensure his beautiful wife and daughter are looked after. This is the best gift we can give a man who always gave the best of himself to us all,” he added.

The trust is hoping to raise enough funds to put Zulu’s one-year-old daughter through school and allow Letshego to mourn without worrying about finances.

Vermeiren has called on all South Africans to contribute to the fund

The account details are: Account Name: Waterford – Gugu Zulu Family Trust Bank: Nedbank Limited Branch Code: 198765 Savings Account: 9019592539.

Zulu died while part of an expedition on Mount Kilimanjaro. Project leader for the Trek4Mandela expedition, Richard Mabaso, said that Zulu had been experiencing flu-like symptoms and was taken to a hospital after his breathing become heavy.
