Johannesburg, May 2025 | Jacaranda FM‘s Good Morning Angels initiative has come to the aid of SPCA Randfontein and Westonaria (SPCA RandWest) with a donation of R70,000, alongside 100 blankets donated through Warm Fest 2025.
Located on Gauteng’s West Rand, SPCA RandWest is home to around 300 animals, many of which are victims of abandonment, neglect, and abuse. With a dedicated team led by Manager and Inspector René van Straten, the organisation tackles more than 40 abuse cases monthly—highlighting the urgent and ongoing need for support.
While food, medication, and vet bills are a constant challenge, the shelter recently raised alarm over growing security concerns at its Westonaria facility. Reports of attempted break-ins, suspicious activity, and damage to the property have jeopardised the safety of both animals and staff. A comprehensive security system, costing R45,000, was urgently needed, but beyond the shelter’s modest, donation-driven budget.
In response, Good Morning Angels has stepped in to fund the full R45,000 required for the security system, ensuring the safety of the shelter, its animals, and its committed staff. An additional R25,000 has also been donated to assist with veterinary expenses, food, and other critical supplies – bringing the total donation to R70,000.

As an extra show of support, Warm Fest 2025, an initiative by Jacaranda FM’s Martin Bester and Round Table, will donate 100 blankets, ensuring every kennel (60 dogs and 40 cats) is equipped for the winter chill.
“As someone who deeply loves animals, it breaks my heart to know what some of them endure,” says Martin Bester, host of Jacaranda FM’s ‘Breakfast With Martin Bester’ and founder of Warm Fest. “We created Warm Fest to bring comfort and dignity to both people and animals during the coldest months. It’s an honour support SPCA RandWest and help them continue their amazing work.”
Jacaranda FM’s Good Morning Angels continues to play a vital role in transforming lives and supporting the unsung heroes in our communities. This latest donation is a testament to the show’s ongoing commitment to uplifting those who protect our most vulnerable.
