The unique wine
Pinotage is no ordinary grape. Born and bred on South African soil, it is the country’s signature cultivar – bold, expressive, and thoroughly unique. Expresso Pinotage takes that legend and adds an unexpected partner: the deep, roasted character of coffee-style winemaking, achieved through heavily toasted French oak ageing rather than any additives. The result is 100% wine, and 100% extraordinary.
The grapes are sourced from deep shale-soil vineyards in the Paardeberg region near Paarl in the Western Cape, where a longer hang-time on the vine produces rich, ripe, concentrated fruit. After a two-day cold soak to deepen flavour extraction, a slow and cool fermentation follows before the wine is transferred to heavily toasted oak barrels, where it develops its signature character.
In the glass – or rather, straight from the can – Expresso Pinotage delivers layers of dark prune, plum, and ripe blueberry, with a prominent finish reminiscent of Mocha Java ground coffee. Deep, smooth, and confident. The kind of wine that makes you pause mid-sip and appreciate it.
