(Johannesburg, 6 March) – For over a decade, December Streets have become a core part of the DNA of the South African music scene. With chart-topping favourites like Santa Fe, Magic, Wild Heart, Kick Start and their biggest single to date, Last Forever, the band built a reputation on infectious melodies, explosive hooks, and high-energy live shows.
This new single delivers the true feel-good December Streets energy, but has been described as their ‘most honest song to date’ – The Good Life was born out of reflection,” Tristan Coetzee (lead singer) shares. “Over the past decade, we’ve chased big dreams, played big stages, made mistakes, grown up, fallen in love, lost things, gained things, and somewhere in all of that, we started asking ourselves what ‘the good life’ actually means. Creatively, the process was raw and honest – If it didn’t feel real, it didn’t make the cut.”
The band has never chased superficial things – fame, charts, numbers, none of that. For them, it’s always been about connection. “It’s the people you build with. It’s the quiet moments that feel bigger than the loud ones.” From day one, their curiosity and love for music have been the driving force behind everything they do. “We’ve never chased trends or tried to replicate whatever’s working.” We’re too curious, too restless; probably too ADHD for that.”
The full album is set for release in October 2026, followed by a nationwide tour that promises to showcase both the band’s classic crowd favourites and this evolved, more visceral sound. “Performing live is something we’ll always love, but songwriting is our real obsession. Translating lived experiences into something people can feel; that’s the magic for us.” The band worked with long-time producer Dolf (Rudolph Willemse) and brought in Josh Berry (from Honeymoan) into the process for a completely fresh lens. “He challenged us in the best way,” Tristan says.
There is plenty to be excited about for the year ahead, and the album will be a big one for them. “This album is going to be one of the proudest moments of our lives.” And guaranteed to be a pivotal chapter for December Streets. “Dream bigger than anyone around you thinks is reasonable. Be unwavering in that vision. Chase it with everything you’ve got.”
