CAPE TOWN’S YOSHE BLENDS EMOTION AND EDGE ON STIRRING SINGLE “OCEANS

Must read

(Cape Town, May 2025) — Cape Town-born alt-R&B and indie alternative artist YOSHE has released his latest single, Oceans — a soul-stirring new single that marks a bold and personal evolution in his sound. Known for previous electronic collaborations with the likes of Thor Rixon, Kekura, and Virela, YOSHE’s latest release cuts deeper, blurring the lines between alt-pop, indie, and R&B, while grounding itself in heartfelt lyricism and lived experience.

“Oceans isn’t about romantic infatuation,” YOSHE shares. “It’s about that shift from man-boy to man — taking responsibility, carrying each other’s weight, and recognising the partner who walks beside you through it all. Where he’s caught in the noise of his own mind, she’s the calm that quiets it — like the ocean.”

The song was written over time and shaped by a trusted circle of collaborators, including Yanick Bathfield and Simon Ackermann (Grassy Spark), producer Vincente Espi, and Greg Abrahams (Sound Foundry). Each, YOSHE says, brought a unique energy to the final track.

Sonically, Oceans mirrors YOSHE’s approach to songwriting — free from formulas or genres, rooted instead in emotion. “I never write with a genre in mind,” he says. “I care about sincerity. Something with edge. Something you can dance to or sit still with.” His influences reflect that wide-open palette, ranging from Frank Ocean and The Police to Slipknot and Hans Zimmer.

After five collaborative singles that have garnered over half a million streams, Oceans represents a turning point: a clearer sense of self and a deeper connection to the stories he wants to tell. “This new chapter is more personal. It’s YOSHE, fully formed.”

With an EP on the way in August and another single dropping in July, fans can expect even more from the Cape Town-based artist in the coming months. And as for the live stage? “That’s where this project really shines. I can’t wait to bring it to life.”
