The bodies of four babies were discovered in a refrigerator in New Brighton, Mthatha, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.
“Police received a tip-off on Saturday and had to break into the house because the owner was not there. Four newborn babies were discovered in a freezer. An inquest docket has been opened,” said spokesman Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela.
The owner’s backyard tenants told police that she was in Johannesburg attending a funeral, he said.
No arrests have been made.
