Desmond Tutu, 84, was on Wednesday rushed to a hospital in Cape Town, South Africa after suffering from a recurrent infection and will remain in hospital for one or two weeks according to a statement from his family.
According to his family, Desmond underwent hospital tests for a persistent infection in 2013 and also had a similar treatment for the infection last year.
His daughter Thandeka Tutu-Gxashe said information would be released to the media when available.
Tutu, who is now 84, was admitted to hospital a number of times last year where he was treated for a lung infection.
