BE SURE IS AMA GAISIE’S LATEST SINGLE, RELEASED 27 JUNE.
Ama Gaisie, the London-born Cape Town-raised triple-threat performer whose voice moves between continents as effortlessly as her story, is back. Her latest genre-blending single ‘Be Sure’ is a sonic Afrobeats R&B experimentation – quite literally from the soil of South Africa. ‘Be Sure’ will be released on all streaming platforms on Friday 27th July.

In a world-first musical experiment, producers and collaborators Tristan Coetzee and Rudolph Wilemse built the beats of ‘Be Sure’ using a PlantWave device, translating electrical signals of plants as MIDI sounds, which were recorded and layered to form the composition. Dolf says, “By connecting sensor pads to various African plants, we have landed on Marula rhythms, Rooibos beats and so forth – sampled and engineered into pure melodic joy. Or as Ama calls it, ‘Afrobeatanicals’.”
Having completed her tertiary training in the UK as an actor while singing in community spaces, Ama returns not just as a performer, but as a storyteller. Her voice on “Be Sure” is sultry and vibrant. It’s where location and intention meet technology in music.
“‘Be Sure’ was inspired by my change of lifestyles, moving between London and Cape Town. From busy living to Slaapstad, it’s the idea of moving away from the hustle culture that
consumes us in cities. I wanted to change the pace of life so I chose to come home to South Africa. It’s an intentional choice to slow down using rhythm that’s all around us,” says Ama.
About Ama Gaisie
Ama Gaisie is a multi-disciplinary, multicultural artist whose music closely reflects her upbringing. London born and Cape Town raised, she experienced growing up between two drastically different cultures, drawing her earliest inspirations from her parents’ CD collection and eclectic taste. Her influences range from the jazzy sounds of Amy Winehouse and Aretha Franklin to the indie pop sounds of Steve Lacy and Alice Phoebe Lou.
As an actress and musician, Ama is always looking for new ways to express her experiences within the world, and in turn constantly experimenting. While it seems the world is speeding up, Ama has boldly chosen to set down roots in South Africa
