We caught up with an exceptionally vibrant group of Durban boyz, that have been making waves in the local music industry. O31 – A duo that has distinctly immersed themselves in their craft and is showcasing the results of diligent work embued with excellence.
I was completely enthralled by their vibe and exclusive sound and had to ask them a few questions about who they are.
Who is O31?
O31 is a group of 2 young men who go by the names of PK Msimango and Bongani Brian Ndlovu, born and bred in KZN.
How was the group O31 formed?
The group was birthed from a passion for dance and music, we started out as dancers first and everything else fell into place.
Why the name O31?
Because we are Durbanites we thought that the area dialing code, will be identifiable anywhere we perform in the country and we would represent our home town skillfully with its use.
What skills according to you are necessary to be successful in the music industry?
Most importantly we think having passion, talent and love makes it easy for anyone to pursue their craft, everything else will follow that.
What is your most memorable performance?
16 June 2019 Kwa Lichaba in Soweto and Ebubeleni Music Festival in Port Elizabeth.
What advice do you have for anyone that would like to pursue your craft?
We believe going to study music in order to be equipped is important, which in turn will enable you to fully understand how this industry functions – especially understanding things like reading contracts. Again we also believe in humility as you rise as an artist.
What other projects are you working on that readers can look out for?
We are working on our new single called “GOLOGOQO” that will be released in March featuring Dladla Mshunqisi. Readers can look out for that one
