World's heaviest man dies after losing 203kg

Manuel Uribe had slimmed down to 394kg before his death. He started dieting after he was listed as the world’s heaviest human by Guinness World Records in 2007.

On May 2, Uribe was transported to the hospital with a crane by emergency and civil defense workers from his home in the town of San Nicolas de los Garzal, he was suffering from an irregular heartbeat.

According to the Daily Mail doctors have not yet certified the cause of death.

He was one of the first to capitalise on being over weight with his reality show called, The World’s Heaviest Man. The show was filmed after his listing in the Guinness World Records. The show documented his bedbound existence and efforts to lose weight.

Uribe married Claudia Solis in 2008, and the wedding was one of the few times he left his home. A US television station had bought the broadcast rights for the event.

Mexico is battling an obesity epidemic, with 71% of adults and a third of children considered overweight or obese, figures that rival the United States for the dubious title of the world’s heaviest nation.
