Spotify enhances fans connections with their favourite artists from the African continent

With an exciting Burna Boy takeover & special video feature on the African Heat Playlist

African Heat Playlist

The African continent has had a historical influence on music, culture and audio with its impact proliferated by the growing celebration of Black music and artists like Burna Boy, Cruel Santino, Tems, Sho Madjozi, Rema, Nasty C and more. In 2018, Spotify created Afro Hub to celebrate and educate fans on the continent’s diverse music cultures and Spotify continues its commitment to amplifying Black voices across the audio space, within the Afro-centric genre and beyond.

Bringing fans closer to their favourite artist from the continent, and ahead of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations, Spotify has once again partnered with Nigerian singer and songwriter, Burna Boy, to take over its Black History Is Now (BHIN) hub in celebration of all things Black history. The takeover falls on the heels of Burna Boy’s recently released album, Twice As Tall.

The collaboration consists of his own personal curation of playlists and podcasts within the hub to uplift fellow Black voices and amplify an extension of the album’s narrative. Burna Boy’s takeover of Black Superheroes features his own inspirational idols and personal predictions of the next Black music superstars taking over the game in Black to the Future. He is joined by Mama Burna herself for a co-curated takeover of Queen, to celebrate the pivotal roles women have had in shaping his career. Other shelves of the BHIN Hub will include The Elite 5 containing artist profiles of Burna Boy’s five legendary music inspirations: Fela KutiAngelique KidjoSuper CatBob MarleyDiddy. It will also feature The Giants of Africa containing Burna’s personal curation of recent new releases and iconic albums from Nigerian icons – all to celebrate the talent and perseverance born out of the most populous country in Africa.

To top off the collaboration, Spotify and Burna Boy created limited edition Burna Boy comic book cards representing different Burna characters inspired by Twice As Tall themes. Each card outlines the powers each character has. Find the Burna Boy cards across Spotify’s social channels and inside the BHIN hub.

Spotify will also be bringing African artists’ music to life for their fans with the launch of a new video feature on the African Heat playlist that will run throughout October. African music is based on rich storytelling and this feature will provide an exciting opportunity for Spotify to offer artists a chance to take fans behind the curtain and into the creative process of their music. Some of the artists that will participate in the video feature on African Heat include Burna Boy, SimiWizKidDaVido and more.

Join the celebration and head over to African Heat and Black Superheros .
