Catch Zulu Dance Champs at Durban’s Favourite Marine Theme Park

On Saturday, November 30, don’t miss the sounds and the beating of African drums where as many as 60 dance troupes will be performing various traditional dances associated with the Zulu culture and based on warrior war dances, competing for the coveted title. Defending champions, Kangaroo Zulu Dancers will have the opportunity to defend their title on Saturday, 30th November.

The uShaka Marine World Zulu Dance Championship in partnership with Parks, Recreation and Culture, Department of Libraries and Heritage: Arts and Living Cultures, now in its 15th year will have the dance troupes battle it out to win the top spot. 

The regional rounds will take place on Saturday, November 16th and 23rd and the finals will take place at 11am on Saturday, November 30th.

The winner will receive the prize of R100 000 cash which is sponsored by Parks, Recreation and Culture, Department of Libraries and Heritage: Arts and Living Cultures, over and above the 1 year performance contract, commencing December 2019. 

Main Prize (Winner-Zulu Dance Champions 2019)

R100 000 cash

1 year performance contract at uShaka Marine World effective (1 December 2019 – 29 November 2020)

2nd place

Guaranteed up to 6 months paid performances at uShaka Marine World (during December 2019 and May 2020)

3rd place

Guaranteed up to 3 months paid performances at uShaka Marine World (during December 2019 and February 2020)

 “This unique event at uShaka Marine World, offers performers a fantastic opportunity to develop this special dance form and share it with both local and international visitors. Each performance is a memorable cultural experience that is the very heartbeat of the Kingdom of the Zulu. We are always excited to include a number of zulu dance varieties, including Indlamu, Ingoma, Mzansi and other zulu dance styles which ultimately provides more troupes the opportunity to perform and are delighted to have Parks, Recreation and Culture, Department of Libraries and Heritage: Arts and Living Cultures on board, says CEO of uShaka Marine World, Dr Stella Khumalo.

Registration for the Final pre-qualifiers can be done in 1 of 3 ways:
