The 09th Simon “Mabhunu” Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards Nominees Announced

The nominees for the Simon “Mabhunu” Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards named after Simon “Mabhunu” Sabela, who was a legend both on the small and big screens were announced on the 05th of October on Gagagsi FM. The awards were conceptualised by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, and are implemented by the KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission.  Gagasi FM is the 2021 radio partner.

“The judges went through a rigorous process to ensure that all the judging stages are credible. I’m content that the processes went smoothly. In addition, our auditors were also on hand to guarantee transparency and credibility,” says Dr. Janet van Eeden, Overall Judging Chairperson.

The highly contested category; the Best Actor : TV saw Wiseman Mncube (Uzalo), Thobani Nzuza (Ehostela), Mavuso Magubane (Durban gen), and Siyabonga Shibe (Uzalo) vying for the award.  Topping the nominees list is Salamina with nine (9) nominations, followed by Uzalo with seven (7) nominations. The Best Feature Film is contested by Fried Barry, Aya, and Tokoloshe the Calling, while the Best Film in IsiZulu is contested by Salamina, Inkabikazi, and Uthando Nobukhosi.
